Job Opening: Advertising Sales Specialist (RMRTD)

The Mid-Region Council of Governments/ Rio Metro Regional Transit District (RMRTD) is accepting applications for the position of Advertising Sales Specialist. 

General Statement of Duties

Under the supervision of the Rio Metro Regional Transit Regional Transit District (RMRTD) Marketing Manager, is responsible for the functions of the Rio Metro Advertising program, including developing strategies to generate advertising sales for the train and buses, perform various complex and professional advertising and marketing activities.

Essential Functions 

  1. Initiate and drive discussions with target clients and present strategic advertising proposals to clearly and convincingly secure business.
  2. Negotiate agreements with outside sales representatives and agencies.
  3. Identify and contact potential clients to sell advertising.
  4. Prepare and present sales presentations on advertising spaces to new and current clients to promote their product and service effectively.
  5. Research and update all advertising rates as needed.
  6. Evaluate and implement appropriate new sales techniques to increase advertising sales volume and revenue.
  7. Coordinate the installation and removal of all advertising; ensure deliverables are met and completed on time.
  8. Prepare and maintain detailed reports to track all sales activities and advertising implementations; manage control of inventory.
  9. Work with the Accounting Department to track client billing.
  10. Work with businesses, government entities and community organizers to coordinate events that involve transit services.
  11. Represent RMRTD at external events and activities.
  12. Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and sales procedures.
  13. Must be able to work occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends to attend a variety of events.

Other Functions 

  1. Identify and recommend product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.
  2. Identify opportunities for improving current procedures that are more efficient; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
  3. Attend and participate in job-related conferences and professional group meetings.
  4. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Five (5) years of experience in advertising sales and marketing.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Preferred advertising sales experience.
  • Creating and managing customer-focused initiatives, sales programs within nonprofit and/or public sector desired.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain effective client and business partner relationships.
  • Draw upon quantitative and analytical skills to regularly monitor and make recommendations to clients to capitalize on trends.
  • Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently while being part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Self-motivated and take initiative when needed. 
  • Customer-service centered
