[ARCHIVED] Internship Opportunity: Transportation Planning Intern

The Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) seeks a motivated, detail-oriented individual to serve as a Transportation Planning Intern.  

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include basic data creation and updating, data collection; data quality checking; data archiving; and data entry using software such as ArcGIS and Microsoft Excel. Other functions may include researching transportation policy best practices. The position will provide the intern with the opportunity to learn about the basics of metropolitan transportation planning and provide training in ArcGIS and industry standard software and programs. The intern will be paid $16.00 per hour with no benefits, working approximately 15-19 hours per week for no longer than 9 months after official start date. MRCOG offers flexibility within regular business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Mon.-Fri.) to accommodate student schedules. Credit hours granted for this work experience are solely at the discretion of the student’s college or university and should be discussed with a program advisor. MRCOG will provide an end-of-term evaluation upon request.

Qualifications

Enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree program in planning, geography, earth sciences, computer science, engineering, economics, or related field. Proficient in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel with strong quantitative and data analysis skills and written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to work with a variety of individuals. Previous experience with data analysis, computer programming, and/or GIS is strongly preferred. Multiple positions may be filled. Employment is contingent on passing a background check.
